Why
Volunteer Jacksonville?
President
Bush has asked that every American commit "at least two
years -- 4,000 hours over the rest of your lifetime - to the
service of your neighbors and your nation." To help you
make a decision based on your interests and schedule,
Volunteer Jacksonville offers the largest up-to-date list
of volunteer opportunities in the area - by mail, fax, Email
or on the Web.
Volunteer
Jacksonville Programs and Who They Serve
-
General
Community Involvement -
The
Volunteer Connection Time. We never seem to have enough.
VJ's Volunteer Connection assists individuals, families
and groups with so many demands on their time to find just
the right volunteer opportunity - one that not only fits
their schedule, but tackles critical needs that are important
to them.
- Youth
Power - The
Prudential Youth Leadership Teens want and need
as much positive reinforcement in their lives as possible.
PYLI (the Prudential Youth Leadership Institute) training
allows upcoming high school sophomores and juniors to spend
part of their summer learning leadership and organizational
skills, teambuilding, how to assess community needs and
how to be effective agents of change. These energized teens
then return to school and challenge others to get involved.
- Servant
Leadership - Blueprint
for Leadership Area nonprofits need strong, savvy
leadership. Blueprint for Leadership identifies a diverse
mix of active and potential community servant leaders and
prepares them for effective leadership roles on a community
organization's board of directors. This six-month program
develops leadership skills and knowledge of board roles
and governance responsibilities, a grasp of community needs
and opportunities to serve. Each participant then gets a
one-year, first-hand experience as an intern on a community
board.
- Business
& Community Partnerships - Corporate Initiatives
Good business needs the support of a strong community. From
a single local business to corporations operating statewide,
Volunteer Jacksonville's Corporate Initiatives can design,
develop, manage and support effective employee volunteer
programs that will help strengthen all aspects of your corporate
appeal from the inside out. The return on consistent well-positioned
community involvement includes increased brand recognition,
better employee morale and retention, more loyal customer
base, and is key to your business' long-term success.
- Effective
Board Service - Community Board Bank Sometimes
nonprofits and those desiring board service need help connecting.
In partnership with AmSouth Bank, the Community Board Bank
identifies individuals seeking community service through
board membership and matches their interests and qualifications
with a related agency in need of trained, committed volunteer
board members.
- Nonprofit
Capacity Building - Training Our training
program provides courses to help build capacity for effective
volunteering. Workshops include our executive director series
to help executive directors work more effectively with their
boards; effective volunteer management; and basic and intermediate
grant writing.
- Log
on and Volunteer - Volunteer
Gateway Jacksonville Gateway offers online volunteer
registration, real-time posting of information, a database
that tracks volunteer hours and demographics, and much more.
Students and employees can use Gateway to find opportunities
that have been pre-approved by professors or businesses
that fulfill requirements. www.volunteergatewayjacksonville.org
- Volunteer
Management - Standards of Excellence The
newly developed Standards of Excellence will provide agencies
with a self-assessment tool to help them evaluate their
volunteer program. Agencies can choose to pursue an Excellence
in Volunteer Management designation or simply use the standards
as a resource. These standards will assist prospective volunteers
in locating agencies that are committed to having a well
organized volunteer program that will help produce the best
possible volunteer experience.
- Idea
Exchange Forum - Network of Volunteer Coordinators
Directors of volunteers in agencies are provided a forum
to network and access field knowledge and information. By
taking advantage of this opportunity and the educational
programming it offers, this group provides the fuel for
excellence in volunteer program management.
-

A variety of national opportunities to volunteer time
and talents to service projects and activities throughout
the year are co-sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation,

a Difference Day each provide unique opportunities to
