What is The Volunteer Jacksonville Youth Leadership Program?
Volunteer Jacksonville's Prudential Youth Leadership Institute (PYLI) is a state-of-the-art training program designed to teach servant leadership and community service skills to high school-age students. The program is partially sponsored by Prudential and administered by Volunteer Jacksonville, Inc., a Points of Light Volunteer Center.

What will I learn?
Volunteer Jacksonville's PYLI employs a specially designed curriculum developed by the Center for Creative Leadership of Greensboro, N.C., one of the world's foremost authorities on leadership training. Participants learn and practice leadership skills such as goal setting, team building, project planning and decision-making -- while emphasizing the importance and means of applying these skills to community service endeavors. The training program consists of approximately 40 training hours of classroom instruction, hands-on field exercises, and an actual community service project.

How will I benefit?
• Develop leadership experience for college entrance applications.
• Receive approved community service hours for Florida Bright Futures scholarship.
• Meet new local friends with the same interests.
• Grow in confidence and skills as school and community leaders.

Who can apply?
PYLI is intended for students who will be sophomores or juniors by September 2003 who have an interest in community service and demonstrate leadership potential. All students with a positive attitude, commitment to serving their community, and the desire to build their own leadership skills are invited to apply for admission. The summer Program of 2003 will consist of 35 students from Duval, Clay, St. Johns, and Nassau county public and private high schools and home schools. Of these 35 students, 2 students per school may be selected to participate.

Cost?
There is a $100.00 fee to help defray the cost of breakfasts, lunches and snacks served each day. No one will be denied acceptance due to an inability to pay the fee.

How do I apply?
Please fax or mail completed application, answers to your four questions, and one letter of recommendation to Volunteer Jacksonville by Friday, April 18, 2003.
